Dawn & Hans live in Crathie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. West Carie Cottage is our holiday home, which we have owned since 2003. Our family and friends as well as our guests have been enjoying the peace and quiet the area offers ever since. We visit the cottage whenever we can and never get bored with the ever changing scenery and plentiful activities on offer. Our children love the area, now grown up they spent their childhood building dens in the forest, damming the rivers and messing about on the loch. Our dogs love the long walks in the local forest which backs on to the cottage, swimming in the loch or just lazing in the large & enclosed garden.
Hans is a keen triathlete and the quiet local roads, forest tracks and loch provide the perfect training environment for his cycling, running and swimming.
We have invested a great deal of time and energy in modernising the cottage over the years, gradually improving the decor and facilities. A few years after we purchased the property we started renting it out to guests using the internet and word of mouth to advertise. The cottage has proved to be very popular with all our guests (please check out our visitor feedback), irrespective of where they come from, and we have not looked back since.
In the spring of 2012 we made a significant investment in the cottage, substantially extending and modernising the property to further enhance the quality of the accommodation for ourselves and our guests. We now enjoy the use of a large front porch (dog & boot room) and superb garden room that apart from providing more living accommodation and creating another large bedroom allows us to make the most of the beautiful views and local wildlife.
Our aim is to provide our guests with comfortable accommodation, a relaxed and friendly service and a holiday filled with happy memories. We are confident you will not be disappointed with the cottage itself or the local area, in fact quite the opposite!
When we moved to Crathie we acquired a second cottage next to our home - Faunoran Cottage. Though a little smaller it still offers very comfortable accommodation in a well maintained and modernised stone built cottage, with two bedrooms that sleeps up to 4 people (twin & a double). If you are interested in renting Faunoran Cottage in the heart of beautiful Royal Deeside (and a stone's throw from Balmoral Castle) then please get in touch.
